tattoo restoration

July 31st, 2008

This was the client’s first tattoo. He has many other really good tattoos and this one is the only one really lacking. He wanted to add some roses around the prayer hands and a bird for his daughter. I couldn’t do that without trying to clean up and fix this existing tattoo first.
bad tattoo before

The outline is very scarred and raised it was hard to get ink to go into it and when it did it became very puffy. The last thing I wanted to do was raise the tattoo up any further. After tattooing the new roses and the bird out line I tackled the hands. I added shading that was non-existent except for some outline veins on the top of that hand that I thought were going to show. I then tried to clean up the banner with better shading.

The next step will be to incorporate some color in the bird and add vines and leaves to the roses and possible some sun rays coming from behind.
